State Grant Means Quakertown Will Get Two Electric Vehicle Chargers

Thanks to grants awarded by Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Quakertown will get two new electric vehicle chargers.

As part of a larger effort to expand electric vehicle use throughout the state, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has allocated $1 million for grants to install fast chargers in several new locations, including Ridley Township and Quakertown, writes Frank Kummer for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

“DEP is committed to supporting this choice by increasing public knowledge of electric vehicles, making it easier for consumers to find electric models, and helping to expand charging infrastructure,” said DEP Secretary Patrick McDonnell.

The $186,619 grant was awarded for the installation of two fast chargers by EVgo in a mall parking lot at 100 N.W. End Boulevard in Quakertown. This site is located along the high-traffic Route 309.

The chargers are the next step towards the network that the DEP and PennDOT are hoping to build to help drivers who are traveling longer distances from their homes. One of their goals is to install chargers every 50 miles along highways.
